Rajiv Gandhi International Airport's landscape adjudged best in Horti Expo & Garden Festival-2013

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has won a First Prize (Private category) and a rolling trophy for the third consecutive time for the best Landscape in the concluded Horti Expo & Garden Festival 2013, conducted by the Dept. of Horticulture, Govt. of A.P.

The prize was handed over to RGIA officials by Dr. M. Jagan Mohan I.A.S., Commissioner of Horticulture, in an official valedictory function organized on 30.01.13 night at Peoples Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad.

In addition the airport has won First prize for the best traffic islands (Rotaries) and Second prize for the residential township categories.

RGIA won this after a stiff competition from equally competitive participants, which included several IT companies, industries, institutions, and resorts in and around Hyderabad.

Every year, the Department of Horticulture, Govt. of A.P., organizes garden festival during the month of January. During this festival, the department encourages the garden growers of private/ government institutes, colleges, industries, hospitals, and individuals etc., to showcase their landscape gardens. There were about 126 entries under various categories. These gardens were judged by a panel of experts in the field and evaluated based on the quality standards of development and maintenance. The eminent judges visited RGIA landscape on the 12th Jan. 2013 and evaluated the landscape maintenance.

GMR team has landscaped around 600 acres of area consists of 16000 trees, 17 lakh shrubs and 1.8 lakh Square meters of lawns gives a lush green look, harmonically balancing 35000 sq.m of hardscape elements at the airport premises.
