To mark the Ugadi festival, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) organizing various events and programmes for a week (starting from Ugadi) amongst the airport staff, stakeholders and passengers.

Ugadi or Yugadi, the festival celebrate the commencement of the New Year, is a day especially celebrated with huge fun and fervor in Deccan regions of India.The festival of Ugadi also welcomes the spring season when nature seems to be immersed in the festive mood and new leaves and new buds along with a fresh breeze of spring manifold the Ugadi spirit.

As part of the celebrations, backdrops and surroundings in various places in departures, arrivals, airport village and other areas will be decorated with mango leaves, fruits, flowers, neem flowers, sugar cane and other traditional items along with Rangoli, flower pots.

During the celebrations the RGIA terminal building will be decorated with welcome arch with a combination of pillars and flowers/mango leaves. Passengers will get a traditional Indian welcome at the entrance of the airport, beautiful hostesses in traditional Indian attire will greet passengers with sweets/ tilak etc. All boarding gate totems will have the traditional flower arrangement to depict the festive flavor.

A Photo booth arranged at the terminal where passengers can take pictures with their families with a traditional Ugadi decorated house as the background. These photos would then be printed instantly and given away in photo frames to the passengers.

To add fun to the festive season a small basketball court also established at the terminal where passengers can participate in a free basketball game. On winning, they would be given free gifts such as mugs, T-shirts etc.

Ugadi is a festival close to everyone’s heart, particularly for this part of the region. Hence, keeping up with the mood, RGIA wishes its passengers to experience an enjoyable transit during this period and at the same time be aware of the various outlets at the airport to make their travel even more pleasant. The festive celebrations at the airport will create a lot of excitement for the fliers, their visitors, and also the airport community.
