Hyderabad, 18 April 2024: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has won the prestigious 'Best Airport Staff in India & South Asia 2024' award by Skytrax.  The award was announced at a glittering ceremony held on 17th April at the Passenger Terminal EXPO 2024 in Frankfurt, Germany. Hyderabad Airport emerged as the number one airport among all participating airports in India and South Asia.

The award is based on the result of thorough audits and evaluations that analyze a wide range of factors. These include the combined Quality of Staff service (attitude, friendliness, efficiency) delivered across front-line positions at an airport. It includes all customer- facing staff working for customer help and information counters, immigration and security staff, shops, and food & beverage outlets.

Hyderabad, 11 March 2024: GMR Hyderabad International Airport has once again been recognized in the annual Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey. Of over 400 airports that participated globally in 2023, Hyderabad Airport has been awarded the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award for 'Best Airport in the 15 to 25 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA)' in the Asia-Pacific region for 2023.

ACI World's ASQ program is the leading global initiative measuring airport passenger satisfaction. Through real-time surveys with travelers, it benchmarks over 30 performance indicators, offering a comprehensive overview of the entire passenger journey.

Hyderabad, December 20, 2021 : GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), has been awarded with Certificate of Merit for the excellent efforts in the areas of energy conservation by Bureau of Energy Efficiency under prestigious ‘National Energy Conservation Awards 2021’ (NECA 2021). At a grand event organized at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 14th December, Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri. R K Singh presented the award to senior officials of GHIAL.

The GMR Hyderabad International Airport was the only airport in the Airport Sector that received this distinct recognition. This year, the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) and the National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) were organized as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

GHIAL has been at the forefront of adopting energy efficiency practices and has been recognized for the efficient energy management initiatives. Recently it commissioned its second phase 5 MW solar power plant. With this addition of solar power generation, 50 % of the energy requirements of Hyderabad Airport terminal will be met. There will be a reduction in carbon footprint by about 28 lakh kg carbon dioxide which is equivalent to saving of 1.4 lakh full grown trees.

Over the last 6 years, GHIAL operations have led to a substantial energy saving of around 15.5 MU owing to its consistent and sustainable approach towards energy efficiency measures, which has also led to a rapid dip in the GHG (Green House Gas) emissions at the airport. It is worth noting that Hyderabad International Airport is also a Carbon Neutral Airport having Level 3 + “Neutrality” Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI) under its Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme.

Hyderabad, June 03, 2021 : GMR led Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has been awarded the Gold Recognition by the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific Green Airports Recognition 2021 in the below 25 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) category. The award was decided by a distinguished global panel that recognized GHIAL’s Sustainable Airport Operations for effective Air Quality Management. This is the fourth time in a row that GHIAL receives this award.

ACI’s Green Airports Recognition programme promotes environmental best practices to minimize aviation industry’s impact on the environment and recognizes ACI Asia-Pacific members for outstanding environmental initiatives and projects.

Some of the initiatives at GHIAL to improve the Air quality at the Airport and the surroundings that won the accolades of ACI include –

  • Fixed Electrical Ground Power (FEGP) use resulting in prevention of Auxiliary Power Unit and saving of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).

  • Solar powered Baggage Freight Loader (BFL), step ladder, electric coaches, tugs, and vehicles resulting in the saving of diesel and associated air emissions.

  • Electric buses and cars in the city side of the airport resulting in the saving of diesel.

  • Single engine taxing of aircraft resulting in saving of ATF.

Since its inception, sustainability has been the core theme of GMR Hyderabad International Airport. GHIAL proactively engages with the employees, stakeholders, concessionaires and influences them to adopt environmentally sustainable practices. The airport also actively promotes environmental awareness to sensitize the airport community and the passengers by observing World Environment Day, World Forestry Day, Earth Day, etc. The sustainable airport operations have resulted in significant reduction of fossil fuel consumption and consequent air emissions in and around the Airport.

The Green Airports Recognition programme was established in 2017 with the support from the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee. The programme highlights different environment themes each year. The submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges. Hyderabad Airport has been adjudged as the ‘Best Airport by Size and Region’ in Asia-Pacific region for 2020, in its category of 15-25 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA). ASQ is the world’s leading airport passenger service and benchmarking programme measuring passengers’ satisfaction while they are travelling through an airport. The ASQ programme applies a three-level quality funnel process combining remote and on-site auditing to review more than 150 unique check points to ensure ASQ data collection requirements are achieved by all participating airports. The quality check points ensure the benchmarking and findings from the ASQ departure survey remain of the highest quality.

GHIAL has also achieved the ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) in the present COVID-19 pandemic times, when passenger safety is the top most priority of airport operators. The accreditation is the outcome of the rigorous assessment of Hyderabad International Airport on the alignment of its health measures with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Council Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) Recommendations along with industry best practices. New Delhi / Hyderabad, February 09, 2021 : GMR-run Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad have received the ACI World's (Airports Council International) prestigious “Voice of Customer” recognition.

Both the GMR-run airports have been recognized for their continuous efforts to listen to their passengers, engage and gather feedback to understand their needs and ensure customers' voice was heard during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

During these trying times it is imperative for airports to listen to the voice of the customers to garner passenger confidence and repose the faith in flying, and GMR Airports have been very agile and customer centric in its operations.

Covid-19 has virtually affected every sector in the world and aviation was a sector which took a hard hit. With the objective of restoring passenger trust in air travel, GMR-run Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) and GMR Hyderabad Airport Limited (GHIAL) went all out to quickly adapt to the new normal situations and implement several passenger friendly measures for a safe travel.

Passenger feedback was constantly monitored and worked upon. Various channels to garner passenger feedback to address concerns were activated to make the journey through the airport a memorable experience.

Both GHIAL and DIAL also implemented several passenger-friendly measures such as contactless elevators, contactless information desks, promotion of digital transactions, app-based technologies for shopping and food ordering through HOI App, UV sanitization of passenger baggage, strategic placement of disinfectant mats, ensure higher input of UV disinfected fresh air (filtered through HEPA filters) in the terminal buildings and sanitization of cabs were put in place.

To ensure social distancing norms are being followed inside the IGI Airport, DIAL installed XOVIS Passenger Tracking System (PTS), which alerts airport staff in case of crowding.

RGIA, which is the only airport in the country to have an advantage of paperless e-boarding facility for several years for all domestic travellers, extended this contact-less boarding for international passengers.

The 24x7 social media command centre emerged as eye and ear of Delhi Airport. It listened to passenger needs and provided them support or guidance whenever they were approached by flyers in need.

Delhi Airport also launched Air Suvidha portal, which provided international passengers an opportunity to sail through various quarantine exemption procedures.

Apart from these, a dedicated team of over housekeeping professionals were deployed at both the airports to carry out frequent disinfection drives, deep cleaning of various passenger touch points and ensure strict compliance of social distancing norms.

GMR led Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has clinched the prestigious Gold Award in "Telangana State Energy Conservation Awards - 2020 (TSECA)". The award was presented for the excellent initiatives taken by GHIAL in energy conservation.

Senior officials from GHIAL received the award presented by Mr. D Prabhakar Rao, CMD, Telangana Transco & Genco and Mr. Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Secretary, PR & RD, on the last day (20th December 2020) of Energy Conservation Week Celebrations at Akshara hall, Dr MCRHRD Institute of Telangana, Hyderabad amidst the presence of industry dignitaries and participants.

(TSREDC) annual forum recognizes the companies engaged in Energy Efficiency initiatives that adopt best practices and technological advancement in their daily operations. GMR led Hyderabad International Airport has won the prestigious CII "National Energy Leader" & "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" awards during the '20th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2019' ceremony organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on 18th September at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Hyderabad. Since its inception, GHIAL has been at the forefront of adopting energy efficiency practices and this has led to win various prestigious awards on various industrial platforms. In the last three years, energy efficiency measures taken at GHIAL have led to a substantial energy saving of around 7.6 MU, while leading to a rapid decline in the Green House Gases (GHG) emissions at the airport. In a further testament to its track record in sustainability and environment friendly operations, Hyderabad Airport was the first airport in its category to win the coveted ACI Asia-Pacific Level 3+ Airport Carbon Accreditation for attaining carbon neutrality.

(GHIAL) has won the FTCCI (Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Excellence Award for "Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)" for its CSR initiatives through its CSR wing GMRVF (GMR Varalakshmi Foundation). The Hon'ble Chief Justice of High Court for the State of Telangana, Sri Raghvendra Singh Chauhan presented the award to the representatives of GHIAL on 12th July in the presence of other dignitaries.

While presenting the award, FTCCI lauded GHIAL for the "praiseworthy work in discharging Corporate Social Responsibility" towards the community in the vicinity of the airport and making a difference to the lives of the underprivileged sections of the society in the region.

Since June 2005, GMRVF, the CSR arm of GMR Group has been working with the communities in Airport Colony, Gollapally, Mamidipally, Shamshabad and neighboring villages of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Focus areas of thrust for the GMRVF have been: Education; Health, Hygiene and Sanitation; Empowerment and Livelihoods; and Community Development.

Under Education, GMRVF runs GMR Chinmaya Vidyalaya in airport campus providing quality English medium education to the children of this area & also running a preschool at Shamshabad close to the airport. It supports 9 Anganwadis benefiting over 300 children yearly and 12 Govt. schools covering over 3000 children yearly. Support to the Govt schools and Anganwadis is done through many initiatives such as providing teachers; KidSmart computer education Centers; After-school support; career counselling; stationery and Infrastructure assistance (Notebooks/Shoes/Schoolbags, Library, Classroom construction/renovation, Toilet repair/renovation etc). GMRVF also grooms intelligent and underprivileged children from the villages around the Airport by providing free quality English Medium education through its Gifted Children Scheme. Under this scheme 124 children are being benefited so far.

Under Health, Hygiene and Sanitation – GMRVF runs Mobile Medical Units for elderly in collaboration with HelpAge India covering over 800 senior citizens every week along with free medical check-up and free medicines. Seven evening clinics are also in operation providing free treatment and medicines for the benefit of other community members like women, children etc. It also operates 3 nutrition centers for pregnant & lactating women providing awareness, nutritional supplements, health checkups, immunization etc – benefiting about 300 women every year. GMRVF has also built two RO plants in the neighbouring villages and maintains it for safe drinking water, helping over 600 households.

Under Empowerment and Livelihoods - GMRVF is running a vocational training centre in airport campus providing job oriented skill trainings to school dropout youth. It is offering free residential training in 11 courses with assured placement support. About 9400 youth got trained so far at this centre with close to 90% settlement record. The Centre has tied up with various industry partners over the years, like Voltas, Schneider, Hero MotoCorp, Volvo, Maruthi etc. for quality training, joint certification and placement support. The Centre is a 5 star rated institute under Ministry of Skill Development. It is also implementing PMKVY –RPL Programme (Recognition of Prior Learning) by training and certifying Airport House Keeping and Gardiner Staff. Till now over 400 candidates have been trained and certified. It has also trained Self-Help Women groups from surrounding villages in making jute products and helping them in marketing the products by providing a shop space in airport under the trade name EMPOWER.

Through its Community Development programmes, the foundation helps with Energy-efficient street lights, repair of drainage lines, new building for Anganwadis among other infra support to the communities.

The evaluation was carried out amongst 19 eligible submissions. The review panel has praised the Hyderabad Airport's project on "Innovation and Technology in Waste Minimisation Project at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. Hyderabad Airport has a captive composting plant for processing all food waste. The organic manure from the composting plant are extensively used in maintaining the sprawling green cover, which also acts as a natural sink of the carbon emissions, absorbing about 240 tonnes of CO­2 / annum.

RGIA won a first prize in Private Institutions category for the Best Landscape for the fourth time in a row, in the recently concluded Garden Festival 2014 organised by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh. RGIA also won a First prize for the Best Rotaries.

The department of Horticulture organised this garden festival in the month of January 2014. During the festival, the department encourages the garden growers of private/ government institutes, resorts, hotels colleges, industries, hospitals, and individuals etc. to showcase their landscape gardens. These gardens were judged by a panel of experts in the field and evaluated based on the quality standards of development and maintenance. The eminent judges visited the airport and evaluated our landscape maintenance.

Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme is the industry standard for assessment of airports' efforts to deal with and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Launched in June 2009, Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme comprises of four levels: 'Mapping' (Level 1), 'Reduction' (Level 2), 'Optimization' (Level 3) and 'Neutrality' (Level 3+). It has also received support from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and was extended to the Asia-Pacific region in November 2011.
